About the Piece

MANDRAKE began with an old superstition:
that certain roots, when pulled from the ground, resembled tiny human forms.

This cardigan is a study of what grows quietly beneath the surface — root systems, nervous systems, memory, grief, care. The central figure is neither woman nor plant entirely, but something suspended between them: tender, exhausted, enduring.

The jacquard artwork draws from antique botanical engravings, herbarium studies, and underground growth patterns found in old forests and neglected gardens. The roots continue across the garment like invasive pathways, spreading beyond the body and into the textile itself. Inspired by a collector.

Designed in soil and taupe, MANDRAKE feels less like a graphic sweater and more like a found object, something inherited from a greenhouse keeper, archivist, or woman who spent years tending things slowly.

Part of the PLANTING TOMATOES riff.

“What we tend becomes us.”
