VERMILION EYES sits somewhere between Blade Bird and Familiar.
This one came from a Christmas in July wish from collector Lynne Kennedy, who asked for something drawn from Agnes Obel’s “Familiar” and its strange, watchful mood. I kept coming back to the phrase “vermillion eyes”: red, alert, half-hidden in feathers.
I worked that feeling into a soft velvet tank, letting bird forms blur across the surface like motion, memory, or something seen too quickly in low light. The print is pale and smoky in places, then suddenly sharp: red eyes, dark feathers, small flashes of warning.
It is easy to wear, but not quiet. A familiar made strange.
